About Durham, Northumberland, and Yorkshire Royal National Commercial Directory, 1855

This database contains the 1855 royal national commercial directory of the northern counties of England. These counties are Durham, Northumberland, and Yorkshire. The directory contains classified lists of the nobility, gentry and clergy, merchants, bankers, professional gentlemen, manufactures, and traders of these areas. In addition, it has an alphabetical directory with historical and descriptive sketches of each county, city, town, and village, as well as county maps and other miscellaneous information. Directories can be great sources of genealogical information. They not only help you pinpoint your ancestors in a particular place and time, but they also provide information about your ancestors (such as their occupations or addresses) or historical information about the area.
