This database is an index to deaths that occurred in South Dakota between 1905 and 1955. The index contains the following information: death certificate number, name of deceased, county or county code, and date of death. Statewide vital record registration for births, deaths, and marriages began in South Dakota in July 1905. Copies of later vital records may be obtained from the Vital Records, South Dakota Department of Health, 600 E. Capitol, Pierre, South Dakota 57501. The current fee is $10. Copies of death records may also be obtained from the county in which the death occurred.
