About Limbach-Oberfrohna, Germany, Residence Records, 1869-1932

About this collection

This collection contains residence and census records from Limbach-Oberfrohna covering the years 1869 up to and including 1932. Other documentation regarding resident registrations, parishioners and landowners is included. This town was created in 1950 with the merger of the villiages of Limbach and Oberfrohna. It is located about 9 miles west of Chemnitz and about 43 miles southeast of Leipzig in the modern German state of Saxony. Limbach was first mentioned in a document from the year 1248. Limbach's main attraction is its 16th-century town hall. During the time period of this collection, until 1918, both localities belonged to the Kingdom of Saxony. This collection also includes records from other surrounding communities and neighborhoods that fall within the area administered by modern Limbach-Oberfrohna. The time periods covered in those records vary.

These documents capture details about citizens' temporary and permanent residences and provide important historical insights into demographics, local economies and social structures.
